The number you store is the one that goes wrong

Billing used to store a workspace's used minutes as a number, next to a list of the charges that made it up. Two things that must agree forever, and only one of them can be checked by a person. We deleted the number.

• Minutes used became the sum of the period's usage entries.
• A clip's views became the sum of what its published posts report.
• The getting-started checklist became derived, so a step ticks itself if you did the thing another way.

What it costs

Derivation is not free. It means some questions become unanswerable — you cannot report a history you never wrote down, and a problem that was fixed leaves no trace.

We took that trade deliberately when we decided nexclip would have no activity feed. What is left when you remove everything routine is not history, it is work: the things that are still unfinished, which the overview lists and which remove themselves when they are done.
